friday, february 7!
Thanks to an unbelievable outpouring of community support, we have successfully purchased May Day Cafe as the May Day Cafe Workers Cooperative! We are grateful for this opportunity to continue the long legacy of May Day as a neighborhood gathering place, while deepening our commitments to you and one another through worker-ownership.
The cafe is currently closed as we do maintenance and staff training. But don’t worry! We will be back open very soon so continue serving up the coffee and pastries you love. Keeping checking our website, sign up for our newsletter, and follow us on social media for the latest updates on our re-opening!
With love,
The May Day Cafe Workers Cooperative

Neighbor, Regular, Fan“May Day Café has become a very important part of my life since I moved to Minneapolis from Santiago, Chile. It's a place where I can hide from the world when I need it, and also a place where I have met fellow Chileans, Spanish speakers, musicians and readers. Being there provides me a feel of belonging that's esencial when you are an immigrant. I'm always grateful for it and I want MayDay to keep existing, for the good sake of everybody. You have all my support.”

customer, neighbor“May Day Cafe is such a fixture in the Powderhorn neighborhood! It has always felt like home to me. It's a beautiful community space that happens to have really delicious, high-quality, and affordable food. I think a worker cooperative is a great way to preserve the May Day we love for many years to come.”

dEVOTED fAN“May Day is the number 1 community hub and go-to meeting place in South Mpls for meeting friends, dates, and dreaming up ideas. On most Mondays, Helena and I have the tradition of going to May Day for the INCREDIBLE vegan pizza, for the several friends we are sure to see, and to do our work for the day. I am so excited for May Day to be transformed into a worker-owned and run cooperative!!”

Lifelong Neighbor“Whether you are going to MayDay for a lavender lemonade with earl grey iced tea, or to check out upcoming events on the bulletin board, or just to stand on top of the cold air vents on a hot summer day, MayDay Cafe is integral to our South Minneapolis lifestyle and community. And we are all so excited and ready to support this incredible cafe in becoming a WORKER OWNED COOPERATIVE!!!”

Caffeine-Fiend, lover of co-ops“May Day Cafe embodies the spirit of Minneapolis that I love so dearly: community-oriented, cozy, and ready to build something stronger and better. I can't wait to see what happens next and I'm so proud of my community and beloveds for investing together in a worker-owned model!”

Neighbor“I recently moved to the Powderhorn neighborhood and May Day Cafe has been the most reliable instrument in finding connections within my new community. When I'm picking up a morning coffee I get to meet my neighbors and feel like I'm a part of something bigger--a community space where all are welcome and where conversations spark transformative ideas to make our home better for all of us. I am excited to see how the May Day Cafe Workers Cooperative will reinvigorate our relationships to our food, our neighbors, and this place we call home.”
